Interisland Terminal is proud to present "Moving Histories", an on-line exhibition of flash animation by design students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Department of Art and Art History.

Visually and conceptually adventurous, the seven works by seven emerging designers making up "Moving History" highlight the strength of creative capital and emerging designers within our community. They also demonstrate the critical nature of local learning and teaching in building strong arts ecosystems. We are "moved" by this exhibition’s ability to convey a human experience with technology, to enliven in the present, events from a distant past, and to delight and inspire in the promise of a creative future that they represent.

ART 400 / Digital Design Course Description: The purpose of the course was to help undergraduate design students develop an understanding of the implications of emerging technologies and new modes of communication and interaction in design. Students became proficient in vector based rendering and the interactive potential of computer programs such as Macromedia Flash. Students documented and challenged the notions of identity as it is mediated through digital and web based forms.

ART 400 / Historical Event Project Description: Technology has always changed the way we communicate and respond to information. Designers have to adapt to new methods in working with text and images to create work that is both timely and takes advantage of emerging technologies. This project required designers to use their skills and knowledge in a time based medium with the potential for expressive outcomes.

Design Problem: Create an animation in flash based on an event in history.
