About the Artist

Rowe’s sculptural installations draw inspiration from both cinema and architecture. Through the combination of common construction materials such as wood, sheet rock and metal, Rowe creates complex abstract structures that engage with the space around them, “often suggesting a three dimensional series of frames that mimic a filmic sequence.” Each structure is accented with decorative furnishings, wall paper, color choice, etc. that might “make a space an expression of someone’s personality,” says Rowe.

Based in New York, Rowe was included in the 2008 Whitney Biennial and has recently show at PS1, the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Efroymson Family Entrance Pavilion series, and the University of Michigan Museum of Art.

During her exhibition with Interisland Terminal in Honolulu, Rowe will participage in the University of Hawaii’s Intersections program:

  • Offer studio instruction seminars for UH Art Department students
  • Lecture at the Art Department
  • Work with students to create an on-site installation at the University.
