The 18 movies I saw at Tribeca Film Festival

Over the 9 days I was at TFF, I managed to squeeze in 18 films, 7 filmmaker Q&A sessions, and 3 Tribeca talks. Really good filmmaker presence

My 4 favorite

Monogamy
– great looking film shot on the Red camera. The way it showcased brooklyn, helped make up for the fact that I was spending most of my time in NY inside dark theaters

Dog Pound – brutally violent, but exceptionally well executed film. Great characters and actors, fantastic storytelling, and the most expertly edited film I saw.

Buried Lands – clever concept and thoughtful execution of the narrative / doc hybrid. Fascinating subject in the “Pyramids” in Bosnia

The Sentimental Engine Slayer – I have a soft spot for films that bring me back to border-towns in Texas like the one I grew up in. Really interesting (and compelling) story structure and sound elements

ALSO SEEN

William Vincent, Feathered Cocaine, Meskada, Thieves by Law, Legacy, Brilliant Love, Gerrymandering, The Killer Inside Me, Nice Guy Johnny, Metropia, Heartbreakers, Freakonomics, Saturday Night
